Very cool “The Beast” - a guitar from a unique period in Gretsch’s history that saw new and different models. This one has a ton of mojo with its solid mahogany body and drastic shape, it is a smaller guitar that is very comfortable and easily wield-able, and is nice and light.

The rosewood fretboard has a completely flat radius akin to a classical guitar - and it is quite speedy to play, particularly for lead up the neck. The pickups sound like a vintage humbucker should, are very smooth and easy to produce a sweet lead tone with a bit of gain. This guitar has seen some profeessional help at some point in its past - the zero fret has been moved back a bit, likely to correct intonation issues that these tend to have. The neck has some superficial cracking along the seam in the center of the profile, these have no feel-able depth and pose no issue to the integrity of the guitar. It looks like it may have received a refret as well, with frets seeming more like medium jumbos. The result is a guitar that plays incredibly well with a straight neck, and low string height all the way up. The tuners and hardware all appear original, however the sticker with the serial number that is typically under the pickguard is not present. The pots date the guitar to ‘79. The finish is a satin lacquer, and I’m not entirely sure if a clear coat hasn’t been stripped - either way, the color looks correct and the body has a nice smooth feel, with minimal marks or dings.

It is in nice overall shape, with some various marks/finish checking on the neck and headstock, and some strum wear in the pickguard. For a late 70’s guitar though, it looks quite nice and would make a great stage companion - and with the attention given to it, plays much nicer than many Gretsches from this era.
