Here’s one you don’t see every day! A real-deal Japanese made ESP from a great period in time - this 400 Series 4 string is ESP’s take on a mid 60’s Jazz Bass, with a skinny neck and sweet sounding dual pickup layout. This one is an absolute gem to play, with super comfortable ergonomics and great sounding p/ups. The aesthetic mojo is there as well, with a very attractive metallic blue finish and matching headstock that complements the J-Bass shape nicely.
It has a nice feeling rosewood fretboard with a rounder radius, along with a fairly round neck profile, albeit a slim one. The control layout is your standard Jazz 2-volume with master tone, giving you the ability to blend the pickups together as you wish. The bridge is vintage style with slotted saddles, with plenty of room to adjust to your preferred height. The pickups have a nice warm tone, and particularly blended together give you some awesome funk that is great for slapping.
Cosmetically it is in good shape for its age, with some miscellaneous dings/scratches, and some scuffing on the edge/side of the lower bout. Overall, it has survived quite well and is an attractive bass. The tuners are nickel, and have started to age in a pleasant way, hinting at the bass’s true vintage.
It has been setup with a fresh set of D’Addario 45-100’s yielding a nice low string height up the neck. It is an easy player, and would make a wonderful stage companion!
Includes non-original used SKB hardshell case.
