Up for grabs is somewhat of a special beast, this early 50’s BR-6 has been hotrodded into a truly fantastic sounding amp suitable for professional use - which it has seen around stages across NY. It has tons of classic mojo with the covered grille and brown leather covering, and certainly has the looks to back its killer tone!
A tone and volume control have been added for the second channel, and the controls are somewhat interactive across the channels ala tweed Fender - and overall this amp has a very tweed Princeton vibe about it, with gobs of harmonically rich breakup when pushed. This is a phenomenal amp to plug straight into for Texas blues style dirt, with nice warmth and impressive lower mids. The transformers have both been replaced with beefed-up units, with the output transformer being moved to the chassis. The preamp section has been modified to use 12AX7s - giving it a little more gain and adds to ease of being easily replaceable if you are to take this amp on the road. The tube sockets appear to be replaced across the board, and a modern 2 prong power cable has been added. The handle is a repro unit as well, and a modern speaker has been installed. Additionally it has been fitted with a 5R4 rectifier, as and sports RCA tubes (although of different vintages); which suit the amp and sound great. The work has been done by a well known/regraded amp builder out of Western NY.
All of this adds up to a very special amp that is worth and capable of going on the road reliably, while sounding fantastic. It would look great on any stage, and would also make a wonderful recording amp in a studio. Cosmetically it has faired pretty well considering its age, with various marks, small tears, etc not unexpected on such an amp.
